The Worcester Chronicle
So I had to go with this piece of my blog for many reasons. For one it being the first illustrated book is within itself makes it a piece of history. Myself being a design student and all you realize how much illustrations can really help convey what you're trying to say so much better. Although when I first looked at this piece I didn't think it was about a king dreaming of all the people pleading for his help. I thought that all these men were coming to kill the king in his sleep. Especially with the picture of the knights it almost looks like they're going to attack him. So this can be as to why incorporating the text with the pictures really helps. I do love the faces on the people in need and the bright red which really draws your eyes into the pictures. It's pretty awesome that when the king woke up he changed his ways. I've never really had a dream have that much of an impact on me that I wanted to change my life when I woke up.

The attack on sanjo palace
When I knew we were coming up to the Japanese art section in the book I already knew I had to have a blog dedicated to it. I've always had a love for Japanese art. I love the way they do their drawings and the way they represent things so differently. For instance the fire in this picture is just awesome. The way it was drawn in there with the smoke and everything must've been crazy hard to do back in the day. If you look closely you can see all the details that went into this painting alone. Just planning that out is pretty amazing you'd have to start and just keep going with it. Just like we talked about in class it plays out sort of like a scroll. You really have to take the time and go from each side of the painting to get the full story. I guess this would've been the old japanese way of making an action movie haha. Like we talked about in class I actually almost kind of like the fact that the roofs are all black. It is just sort of how Japanese artists do. I guess the painter just didn't want to take away from the battle itself. Sunday, October 2, 2011
The Colosseum
I think this was another piece I knew I had to discuss as soon as it came up in class. I think this giant structure was amazing the first time I ever read about or well saw it in a movie. Just the sheer design of the Colosseum must've taken a skilled designer to think of. Everything was taken in to account even to the point where they could fill it with water and have mock sea battles. I didn't even know until we discussed it in class that they had the shade that went over top the people which in it's own right is an hell of a thing to think of back in that day. I also recently watched the movie Gladiator again after we talked about it in class and remembered how good that movie was. I think if the real Gladiator battles were anything like that it must've been epic. I thought in the movie though it was Nero who was emperor but it turned out it was Commodus which was kind of funny to me because we talked about how he pretty much almost destroyed Rome with his leadership. If only the the Colosseum was still fully intact even though it going to churches after all the Christians killed there just kind of is icing to the cake.

The Curse of King Tutankhamun
So when I found out we were going into Egyptian art I was actually really interested into hearing about King Tut and seeing how his history would come into play. Ever since I was little I knew about King Tut because I went to the Franklin Institute to go see the exhibit and also I was kind of a history channel buff and would watch random documentary's that would come on it. I would watch the ones on King Tut and heard all about the curses and such that befell the crew that found him. Me being a kid at the time I got all scared and paranoid that something like that would happen to me. So like when I went to see the exhibit i was all nervous about what I'd say or get near cause I was like "I'm gonna die if he gets all angry at me" haha. I still to this day think it was crazy how everything happened to Howard Carter and his crew but I realized that King Tut doesn't have it out for me cause I saw his exhibit. I also think it's crazy how young he was when he was ruling just being that young and having all that pressure to rule a kingdom. But yeah i'm gonna say there was defiantly some kind of conspiracy to his death cause even to this day they're still unsure of what killed him. Well now I'm hoping I still stay in his good graces after making this blog cause i'm not trying to develop a random spot on my face and die.
